Relationship Tips: Is Your Love One-Sided? Find Out How to Make it Work

Relationship Tips: It is hard to say whether a perfect relationship exists or not because most relationships have their battles and turbulences. Many couples find happiness beyond the issue by fixing the problem with mutual interest. However, some relationships may undergo a serious lack of interest from the partner, resulting in a lot of pain for the other.

How to find out if you are in a one-sided relationship?

  • There is a lack of effort from your partner.
  • You are constantly making plans instead of your partner
  • Your partner gets frustrated or irritated when you expect too much from them
  • Lack of communication from their side
  • Lack of initiation, like initiating conversations, plans, activities and so on.
  • Lack of emotional support from your partner
  • Not considerate of your opinions
  • Lack of quality time
  • You may feel emotionally drained
  • You may not feel heard or seen in your relationship
  • Narcissistic behaviour from your partner’s side
  • Compromises from their side are rare
  • They are always defensive and make excuses

What can be the reason for this?

Something like to happen to someone can be very painful and can affect their self-esteem. However, a lot of times it is not personal and has nothing to do with you. Many times, it is due to the attachment style you and your partner possess. There are three types of attachment styles, Anxious Attachment, Fearful Avoidant Attachment and Dismissive Avoidant Attachment. Therefore, it is important to understand which attachment style you and your partner possess, that can help you deal with the situation better. Gaining an understanding of each other’s attachment style can give perspective to your relationship and form empathy for your partner

Moreover, the expectations the two of you hold from the relationship may be very different, resulting in constant conflict and frustration.

Apart from these, insecurities, emotional baggage and trauma can be huge reasons for this.

How to fix it?

There is no one-size-fits-all solution for this. However, therapy can be a great way of reflecting on your relationship and working on it. Although there are other little things you can do to solve temporarily, if your partner does not want you, it is best for your mental health to leave that relationship and spend time working on yourself.
