Bawaal Review: Can Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan Navigate the Mire?

Bawaal Review: Manish Malhotra’s grand Bridal Couture Show witnessed a peculiar yet intriguing plot unraveling in the form of ‘Bawaal‘, a film directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Despite the director’s reputable track record, his latest venture failed to hit the mark, offering an anti-war love story tangled in unwieldy plot lines and half-baked thematic concerns.

Bawaal: A Hapless Union of Unrelated Themes

The film endeavours to draw parallels between an ailing marriage and the horrors of the Holocaust, a comparison that falls flat due to the stark difference in severity. The narrative tends to swerve between various themes, resulting in a disjointed and bewildering viewing experience.

Characters and Performances: Missed Opportunities

The film revolves around the disenchanted history teacher, Ajju (played by Varun Dhawan), and his achiever wife, Nisha (Janhvi Kapoor). While both actors deliver energetic performances, the poor script and unconvincing plot twists hamper their chances of truly standing out.

Bawaal: A Lesson in Inhumanity or a Marriage Counselor?

Bawaal‘ appears to deliver a moral lesson, suggesting contentment in what one has rather than desiring what one lacks. However, this message loses its impact amidst the confusing narrative that veers from being an indictment of war to a critique of self-serving masculinity.

Bawaal‘, though ambitious in its themes, ultimately fails to impress, coming off as a preachy, unsatisfactory narrative. The performances of Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, despite their commendable efforts, cannot salvage the film from its narrative inconsistencies. In its pursuit of offering insights into the human condition and relationships, ‘Bawaal’ loses itself in a maze of tangled themes, leaving the audience wanting for more.
